| This special formulation of VECTASHIELD® Mounting Medium contains a counterstain for DNA and is ready to use for fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) or any other procedures requiring fluorescent counterstaining of DNA. Counterstain may also stain RNA. Provided at an optimal concentration of 1.5 µg/ml, lower concentrations of PI can be achieved by appropriate dilutions with VECTASHIELD® Mounting Medium. |
| PI (propidium iodide) has a broad excitation range with a maximum at about 535 nm and emits at about 615 nm with a red fluorescence when bound to DNA. PI can be simultaneously visualized with FITC-labeled DNA probes. |
